Ski Movies/Films - Do you have a favourite,

Warren Miller's ski films aside, this is my ultimate favourite ski movie/film. Aspen Extreme, It's about two friends who go to live out their dream of becoming ski instructors, but they face that dreams aren't aways what you expect. It stars Paul Goss who later went on to appear in the TV Series "Due South" as a Canadian Mountie who was posted to Chicago. Aspen Extreme has a good story line with humour and sadness in equal measure, but best of all, there is some absolutely fantastic skiing footage! Especially the frozen waterfall scene.

There are also a couple of the James Bond movies that feature some good ski scenes:

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Filmed at Piz Gloria near Wegen in Switzerland
The Spy Who Loved Me - the classic scene - skiing off an cliff and opening the parachute with the Union Jacket flag on it
The World Is Not Enough - featuring the impressive anti-avalanche jacket - if only it really worked!

Absolutely! There are so many... sometimes the cheezier the better!
1. Hotdog
2. Better Off Dead- "I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS!"
3. Warren Miller's: Journey Through The Decades- a collection of some of his movies- early stuff that just gives you that feeling of "Wouldn't it have been Awesome!"

With the exception of 'Warren Miller's' films those are unknown to me. My fave from the Power of Snow box set is 'Storm'. 'I haven't seen Journey through the Decades' but I do have a old video copy of 'Steeper and Deeper' which stars the one and only G Plake (met him once in London, and all I could do was say "Nice hair" - Greesh!! Almost as bad as Baby in Dirty Dancing saying "I carried a watermellon"

On the cheesey front I have a very old video copy of a film called "Ski Patrol" - My favourite character in the film is 'Sucide' - the rocked out guy with the split personality - "Rocket skis -Taste Death Live Life"

No sadly I didn't ask him for a autograph, I was still mentally kicking my self over the 'hair' comment. But I understand from others who have met him that he's really personable.

I have watched bits of the Blizzard of Ahhhs in various bars over the years, I'm not sure that I've ever seen it all the way through. Hmm I'm sure that film isn't in my personal film collection (must make a note to get myself a copy).

Oh and there is the film that started it all, and proved that you could have a film about skiing which wasn't a financial flop - the classic Downhill Racer Robert Redford and Gene Hackman star

Ahhhh- yes Andrew, I do love that movie too- Good One!

Hmmmm- I'll have to add Steeper and Deeper to my Netflicks list! As for meeting Glen Plake, well, that must have been "A MOMENT". And you always get caught in AWE and off gaurd during such times? You did well my friend, did you get an autograph? I would have been obsequiously groveling enough to have asked!!!
Have you seen Greg Stump's Foursome Blizzard of Ahhhs with Glen Plake?

I have heard that the next James Bond film will have skiing in it!!! Which is totally exciting!

Really? i'll have to keep an eye out for that film. The Bond movies of late have been a bit bare of skiing stunts. The last Bond movie that featured snow action was, if memory serves "The World is Not Enough", which was all filmed in and around Chamonix in France.
